Witch hazel is commonly found as an understory shrub in northern hardwood forests. Witch hazel is a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub. Its leaves turn a clear yellow in the fall, which can be quite showy. Witch hazel has yellow, spider-like flowers that bloom in the fall after leaf drop. Witch hazel is somewhat tolerant of pollution and can be used in border plantings, in natural areas, and in shady areas.
